The Locanda Ca' Le Vele is a wonderful Venetian hotel just off the Grand Canal. It is run by two Venetian brothers Ivan and Max, charming young men who are hardworking, personable and aim to please.
The hotel is fairly new, having opened in January, 2009 and therefore all the rooms are newly decorated. So don't be put off by the exterior! Most Venetian hotels and buildings look like that!
Our large room was ensuite, with a bed, a sofa and a small table and chairs where we had our daily breakfast was served. There were also two windows that opened onto a small canal directly beneath us. It was wonderful to throw back the curtains in the morning and watch the Venetians go about their daily lives.
As I said the Locanda Ca' Le Vele is just off the Grand Canal and to get there you get off at the Ca'Doro water taxi station. The walk to the hotel is about 5 minutes with no bridges to drag your suitcases over, as it is all on the flat - a huge plus!!!
The hotel is centrally situated with minutes from the Grand Canal and a 10 minute walk to the
Rialto Bridge. The hotel is just an alleyway away from a bustling little area where there are some good restaurants and bars and good shopping. There is also a supermarket not far from them either, which we found very handy.
As we went in the low season (Nov - Feb, excluding Xmas) the room as E125.00 a night. In high season; April, May, June, September and October then the rooms are E270 a night. July and August are considered Mid-Season.
Breakfast was a little disappointing in that they did not serve ham or cheese with their meals, but they were working on that and had promised more choices for breakfasts in the future. But essentially it was your continental breakfast.
Certainly a wonderful stay and will definitely stay there again when I get back to Venice.
